Last Time...Celtic v City
City and Celtic have never met competitively before. Although this is the clubs' first official encounter, they have met in friendly matches. City beat Celtic 2-1 in Manchester in August 2009 with Gareth Barry and Carlos Tévez scoring either side of Chris Killen. Pablo Zabaleta was in City's team that day along with Kolo Touré, now a Celtic player.
Fernandinho: “I don’t agree we are favourites. It’s going to be a difficult game. Of course they had a painful defeat for themselves and the fans, but maybe that’s one of the reasons they will step onto the pitch with a lot more concentration, motivated to try to win this home game. So we’ll have to be very careful and stay very focused to not allow that to happen."
Brendan Rodgers (Celtic): “They are a team at the top of the game. I have watched Man City and worked against them over the course of the last five seasons and they have always had an outstanding group of players, hence going on and winning leagues and cups, but the level of their play has gone up since Pep has come in."
Rodgers on Raheem Sterling: "I've been so proud to watch him. He's a great boy to work with and it's been great to see him grow from 17 years old as a player and as a person. He's really shown that with focus, he's a top-class player. He was brilliant for me. I'm looking forward to seeing him, but hopefully he doesn't play that well."
