ฟิล โฟเด้น วัย 26 ปี จะสานต่อเส้นทางกับสโมสรที่เริ่มต้นขึ้นตั้งแต่เขาอายุเพียง 9 ขวบ เมื่อก้าวเข้ามาเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของอะคาเดมีของแมนเชสเตอร์ ซิตี้
นับตั้งแต่ประเดิมสนามให้ทีมชุดใหญ่ภายใต้การคุมทีมของ เป๊ป กวาร์ดิโอลา ในปี 2017 เขาก็ก้าวขึ้นมาเป็นหนึ่งในนักเตะที่ประสบความสำเร็จมากที่สุดในประวัติศาสตร์ของสโมสร
ตลอดช่วงเวลาที่ผ่านมา โฟเดนคว้าแชมป์รายการสำคัญร่วมกับแมนเชสเตอร์ ซิตี้ ไปแล้ว 20 รายการ ประกอบด้วย แชมป์พรีเมียร์ลีก 6 สมัย, ลีกคัพ 5 สมัย, เอฟเอ คัพ 3 สมัย, คอมมิวนิตี ชิลด์ 3 สมัย, ยูฟ่า แชมเปียนส์ลีก 1 สมัย, ยูฟ่า ซูเปอร์คัพ 1 สมัย และ ฟีฟ่า คลับ เวิลด์ คัพ 1 สมัย
ด้วยพรสวรรค์ในเกมรุกโดยธรรมชาติ โฟเดนยังได้รับรางวัลส่วนบุคคลมากมาย ไม่ว่าจะเป็น นักเตะยอดเยี่ยมแห่งปีของ PFA, นักฟุตบอลยอดเยี่ยมแห่งปีของ FWA และ นักเตะยอดเยี่ยมพรีเมียร์ลีก ประจำฤดูกาล 2023/24
ในเดือนพฤษภาคม ปี 2026 เขากลายเป็นนักเตะเพียงคนที่ 6 ของแมนเชสเตอร์ ซิตี้ ที่มีส่วนร่วมกับประตูในพรีเมียร์ลีกครบ 100 ประตู (ยิงและแอสซิสต์รวมกัน) อีกทั้งยังเป็นหนึ่งในนักเตะเพียง 20 คน ที่ทำประตูให้สโมสรครบ 100 ประตู ตลอดประวัติศาสตร์ 132 ปีของแมนเชสเตอร์ ซิตี้.
โฟเด้นกล่าวถึงการต่อสัญญาฉบับใหม่ครั้งนี้ว่า เขากำลังใช้ชีวิตตามความฝันในวัยเด็กด้วยการได้ลงเล่นให้กับแมนเชสเตอร์ ซิตี้

Local boy, natural talent
Winning is sweet. Doing so with a boyhood Blue at the heart of things is even sweeter.
It’s hard not to be stirred by photos of the child in the baggy City shirts of the noughties every time Foden’s Stockport heritage is raised.
The proud Academy graduate has known little other than winning ever since moving into senior football in 2017 and there was never a doubt that he would develop into the unique talent we see today.
With enthusiasm abound, Foden has had the best possible education for any young midfielder, with Pep Guardiola as his manager and the likes of David Silva, Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva and Rodri all starring for the Blues during his career.
He’s absorbed everything he could from those supreme talents and used it to fashion his own style.
Whether on the wing, behind the main striker or sitting deeper, Foden’s range of passing and eye for goal makes him almost impossible to defend against when he’s on form.
There’s also the air of unpredictably that surrounds him in possession that can only come from a natural skill level and innate creativity.
In other words, a defender’s worst nightmare.
A young talent during our Centurions and Fourmidables campaigns and then a key cog in the Treble season, it was 2023/24 that saw Foden claim the headlines for himself.
Mostly starting centrally, he became the driving force behind our fourth successive Premier League title, scoring 19 times in the league alone.
His control, turn and shot from the edge of the box grew into one of those weapons of elite footballers that simply can’t be stopped, with strikes against Manchester United and then in the final day title clincher against West Ham the standout moments.
He was rightly recognised as the best footballer in England that term, claiming the PFA Player of the Year, FWA Footballer of the Year and Premier League Player of the Season.
Things have not been as smooth since, but his will to win and passion for City has never wavered.
Neither has support for him from the stands, with the Etihad rising to its feet at the merest glimpse of the No.47.
With a new contract that will see him into his peak years physically, the hope is that Foden can lead a younger generation to fresh glory.
And with a medal haul already the envy of almost everyone to play the game, his status as a City legend is secure.
